TH. [English, trying hard.] 1.To strive diligently in order to succeed. 2. An industrious person who is perceived to be overzealous.

T'boli. [Tao belil meaning man living on the hills.] 1.A native of South Cotabato.2.A tribe with the same name.

Tabak. 1.A machete or small ax. 2.An annual festival celebrated every June in Tabaco City, Albay. 3. A colorful street parade honoring the importance of machete.

Tabal. [Cebuano] 1.A traditional way of preserving fish with excessive amount of salt. 2.The process of preserving fish by burying them in rock salt and keeping them in room temperature. 3.The fish preserved by salting.

Tagak [Pampanga]. Heron or cattle egret.

Tagay. [Visayan] 1.To drink wine or liquor in a pre-agreed cup, glass, or any container. 2.To pour wine or liquor into a container. 3.A round of beer, liquor, wine, or similar intoxicating beverage.

Taho. Chinese soybean curd.

Tahop. [Cebuano] 1.A rice or corn bran. 2.A corn by-product that is used as poultry feed, fishpond silage, or hog fodder.

Taklobo. [Visayan] 1.A giant clam, scientifically known as Tridacna giga.

Talipapa. [Filipino] 1.A temporary food market with stalls under inclined flat sheds that originally sold fish, particularly the talipa, a small fish akin to the salmon. 2.A community marketplace that includes rice and com dealers, drugstores, cafeterias, barbershops, and all sorts of retail stores. 3.A wet market that is tentative in nature.

Talusi. [Mandaya] 1. Any of the small hombill.

Taong Putik. 1.An annual festival iri Bibic1at, Alianga, Nueva Ecija. 2.A feast mainly dedicated to St. John the Baptist who is said to have baptized Jesus Christ with mud. 3.A ritual brought by settlers from Ilocos Sur who brought along with them the image of St. John to Bibiclat around 1876.

Tapa. [Tagalog and Visayan] 1.Preservingmeat by sun-drying after liberally applying on it. 2.Any slightly salted meat that is sun-dried fresh and kept for future cooking.

Tatay. [Mexican tata, father.] 1.A guardian who acts like one. 2.Head of the family. 3.Respect accorded to a male parent.

Tawilis. [Batangas] 1.A freshwater fish considered delicacy in Taal. Cooked fresh and crispy, it is first dipped in flour before being fried.

Teke [Igorot]. One of the four major phases of the moon in the tradition of the Kankana-ey and Bago folk of Benguet; it refers to the full moon.

Tiangge. [Spanish] 1.Flea market. 2.Wet market.

Kalibutan. [Bohol] 1.Literally, gathering of all Boholanos worldwide. 2.First started on July 19, 1999, the annual event brings together Bohol descendants from all over the world in a festivity of remembrance. 3.Also known by its abbreviation, TBTK.

Tikling. The rail bird.

Tikoy. [Chinese for "sweet cake"; ti ke in Hokkein.] 1.A glutinous cake served by ethnic Chinese during the October double- 10 celebration. 2. A delicious rice cake mixed with sugar and milk given as gift during Chinese New Year.

Timber corridor [Coined by DENR Secretary Antonio Cerilles, c. 2002] An area designated as tree-planting center aimed at attracting investors for forest production activities mainly designed to protect the country's virgin forests.

Timpapalis dagat [Pampanga]. A bird that resembles a white tern.

Timuay. [Zamboanga del Norte] 1.A Subanen leader who settles dispute by butchering a chicken or pig when a reconciliation is reached by warring neighbors.

Tinawon. [Ifugao for once a year.] "1.A rice variety planted in the Banaue terraces.

Tinigib. [Visayan] 1.A local com variety. 2.The traditional variety preferred with farmers due to its good taste, transparent grains, and elongated granule. 3. Any of the local com variety that is resistant to insects, normally planted in low-lying farmlands.

Tinmungaw, tinmengao [Baguio] A mischievous spirit that inhabits the Chico River, often displaying rude behavior to bathers who fail to ask permission.

Tirada. [Spanish tirada, throw; issue; shooting party.] 1.Obsession, as in tsik ang tirada. 2.To target. 3.Aim or objective.

Tisa. [Spanish tiza, chalk.] 1.A kind of pear-shaped fruit with deep yellow meat and black seed. 2. Ordinary chalk used in classrooms.

Tola. [Filipino] 1.Stewed fish cooked with onion, tomato, lemon grass, and leafy vegetables. 2.Any type of cooking that has stew. 3.Also, sinabawan 0 tinola.

Tom Jones. [Gayspeak, after English singer Tom Jones] 1.Corruption for Tagalog gutom, or hungry. 2.Starving, famished or wanting to eat.

Tondo. 1.An old Muslim settlement in Manila whose name possibly comes from tundoc, a banana with violet skin which grew abundantly in the area, which is also its original name. 2.Tundo, Tagalog for baiting or catching fish.

Tong. [Chinese tong, secret Chinese society.] 1.Bribe. 2.Grease money given in exchange of a favor. 3.Illegal collection. 4. Percentage cut of a gambling house taken from winners.

Torpe. [Tagalog, slang] 1.A person who does not know how to court a girl. 2.A bachelor who is afraid to express his emotion directly to a girl. 3.Any person who has qualms about courtship. 4.A nonbeliever in courtship.

Tsupa. [Tagalog slang, from the sound of smacking lips.] 1. Fellatio. 2.Literally,to suck.

Tsuper. [Tagalog; From Spanish chofer, "chauffeur."] Driver.

Tuba. [Visayan] 1.A native wine extracted from the coconut and colored by ground bark of a mangrove known as bakhaw. 2.To harvest mature bananas by cutting down the stalks.

Tuba-tuba. [Visayan] 1.A plant used for herbal treatment, especially rheumatism and flatulence, but its fruits are poisonous. 2.Scientifically known as Jatropha curcos.

Tugbuk. [Davao] 1.A Bagobo penile gadget believed to arouse a woman during sexual intercourse. 2.A pin inserted into the penis in childhood, usually made of small bars of brass, gold, ivory, or lead, or a little tube of tin driver placed across the head of the phallus. 3. A sexual implement that serves to anchor a ring or cogwheel with blunt teeth. 4.Tugbok, a rural district in Davao City, is named after it.

Tulisan. [Tagalog, tulisan.] A burglar, robber, or theft.

Tumanduk. [Capiz] 1.The first inhabitants of Panay. 2.Also known alternately as Sulodnon Bukidnon or Panay- Bukidnon, which the local natives consider as derogatory. 3.Panay natives living in municipalities of Tapaz, Calinog and Jamindan in Panay.

Tung-od. [Ifugao] The start of the planting season.

Turugpo. [Leyte] 1.An annual festival of cockfight, carabao fighting, horse fight and gambling endemic to barangay Camansi, Carigara, Leyte. 2. An obscure ritual originally observed every Good Friday, the holiest day of Christendom, but was moved to Holy Saturday in the '70s. 3.A folk ritual performed primarily as an enduring legacy of the historic but failed Bankaw Revolt in Carigara in 1621.
