I talked to Jon Skelly who is the director of the entire veterans administration in the Philippines and he said record numbers of vets are moving to the Philippines. There claims backlog has gone from none to three months backlog.
As a matter of fact, they just broke ground last week for the new VA clinic and regional office building at the Embassy Seaside Compound. It is on Roxas Blvd next to the Cuneta Coliseum. The fleet post office Philippines is on the same compound.
The US Ambassador Christie Kenny said the number of expats living in the Philippines is increasing. Speculation is that this is caused by the shrinking pensions and the favorable cost of living here.
Jon Skelly said lots of Viet Nam era vets are moving back here. And surprisingly, Iraqi war vets are moving here also. Jon said he likes to think it may be that they are impressed with the quality of care and service the VA Philippines offers.
Two of the Iraqi war vets are my nephews. They were impressed with the Philippines. They were stationed briefly while on active duty, on Luzon.
