President Noynoy Aquino III

 

Benigno "Noynoy" Aquino III, the 5th President of the Phil. Republic was born on February 8, 1960. His parents were Benigno Aquino Jr. and Corazon Cojuangco - Aquino (both deceased) He is the third and only son of the five children.

He studied in Ateneo de Manila for his elementary, high school and college education graduating in 1981 with Bachelor Arts in Economics.

In 1983 shortly after murder of his father, he became a member of the Phil. Business for Social Progress. In 1985 he joined the Nike Philippines, later the Mondragon Philippines. In 1986 he became Vice - President of Philippine Intra - Strata Assurance Corp.

He was elected Congressman of the 2nd District of Tarlac in 1998 and was re-elected 2001 and 2004 and served until 2007.

After the death of President Corazon Aquino a group of lawyers and activist formed the NAPM - (the Noynoy Aquino for President Movement), a nationwide campaign to collect a million signatures in order to persuade Noynoy to run for president. On Sept. 1, 2009 Senador Mar Roxas announced his withdrawal in presidential race and expressed his support for Noynoy's Presidential Candidacy.

On May 10, 2010 Noynoy was elected President with more than 14 million votes.

He took oath being the President of the Phil. Republic on June 30 2010 with Justice Conchita Carpio Morales.
